The Media Store Logo and Business Cards

I recently did a freelance project for an up-and-coming ad agency/multi-purpose media company who needed a logo and some business cards. I wanted an interesting but solid mark that would catch one's eye but also be classic and simple - and transverse well to black and white or to color if they desired. This is what we ended up with, I'm pleased with the final result. If you are in Oxford and need any graphic design, social media marketing, or just help in general getting your business out there/finishing up a project like a website or something that you realize was too much to take on yourself drop 'em a line!

VOX event posters

I currently am designing for a small publishing company here in Oxford - VOX Press. They not only publish books but also produce a literary magazine (SALT) which I am currently working on as well. VOX also does a series of events every fall which showcase local writers/artists of all kinds which are a great addition to our arts community here in Oxford. Here are two posters I recently did for the first two events of this season.

Upcoming Shows at Lamar Lounge

I just did a bit of freelance work designing a couple posters for a few shows coming to Lamar Lounge in Oxford, MS this month. They were quick and tons of fun to do - and if you're in Oxford you should definitely come out for them!

Whimsical Congrats Card

On my walk to work I noticed a box on the side of the road outside a pizza place that had an amazing graphic on it. Whatever food supply item it was, the brand was 'Lucky Buck' and I absolutely had to snap a picture to use in something. I masked out the logo in photoshop and edited it a bit in illustrator in order to create this whimsical card to congratulate someone on their good fortune.

Happy March Madness!

So I unfortunately missed the ESPN bracket deadline by three minutes this morning so decided to create my own to follow the games and see how I do! I don't know much about what's been going on in Basketball but I have always wanted to fill out a bracket but never have - this year I made sure I did (even if ESPN said I was too late.) Also, I'd like to wish everyone a happy St. Patrick's Day - go have a Guinness for me!

Vacay!

I am going to LA to visit my mom and one of my best friends on Wednesday for a week and have been really looking forward to it! I decided to do a bit of research and create a 'guidebook' of places I'd like to visit. Although I've never visited Los Angeles before the feel I currently have of the city is what I tried to evoke in the color choices and design itself. The first page shown is the cover, then the informal table of contents, proceeded by an example of each type of page I included, finally followed by the back cover.

Birthday Time!

My good friend Mellanie just had her 24th birthday - always a good reason to celebrate! She is a super fun girl with high-end taste so I felt this card evoked her personality a bit. I don't usually have a reason to use colors as bold as these so that made this very fun to design!

Happy 2011!

I realize we are a good bit into the new year but I had designed this as a New Year's greeting and had wanted to post it on here. I hope everyone's 2011 has thus far been excellent and will continue to be!

Christmas Card and Invitation Insert

I absolutely love Christmas time and have been looking forward to it since October. When my dear friend's mother asked me to design a Christmas card for her to send out as well as an invitation for a Christmas party they are having I was ecstatic. What a fun project to do, especially since I have already been in the spirit of the season! I decided to make the invitation an insert so it would be easy for her to invite all the people she needed to without sending them two different cards. Their family, although entirely American, is very european in many ways so I tried to convey an almost British feel to the card. The aesthetic is of a 40s or 50s Christmas card - which keeps the Christmas feel classic rather than a mess of consumerism and overspending. The photo on the front is actually their house during a rare snow we had in Birmingham last year which gives extra meaning to the phrase 'there's no place like home for the holidays' - which I whole-heartedly agree with. Cheers and Happy Holidays!

English Night Poster

My dear friend Katie is currently teaching English at a University in Nantes, France. She needed a poster to promote an 'English Night' she is having at a pub there for the students to practice their English conversation skills. This was an incredibly fun poster to design and it's always great to do something for a friend. I wanted a youthful look that represented England and the US in a unique yet historical light. Rather than reference the modern day state of the countries (which, especially in America's case is not looked upon favorably in France) I wanted to harken back to the glorious days when America and England were both dashing, valiant countries filled with loyal citizens with positive, idealist outlooks toward the future. She said the turnout was impressive and that the poster was well liked by all of the students so all in all it was a very pleasant as well as successful endeavor.

Birthday Cards

These are a few birthday cards I designed for a couple of my friends. While I can claim all of the art from the top card I cannot for the bottom card - the hand drawn giraffe vectors were created by Scarletbits [Scareltbits.com] and the watercolor textures were created by Jay Hilgert [although both were benevolently released to be used in the general community.] Cards are so fun to design, and it's nice to be thinking about one person in particular the entire time you're making the design. I am looking forward to the next birthday to come up so I can design another!

Community Foundation Event Program

The Community Foundation (a fairly large local Charity Organization) was having an event to officially commemorate the fifty years that they have been able to serve the community and all of the people that have made that happen. I was lucky enough to get to design this and have alot of creative reign as well. It was a bit of a challenge with the amount of text they wanted to include in the program; it was my goal to keep it clean and organized despite this. The program rolled up (like a scroll) and tied with a ribbon that was their signature green color. The Date (on the outside) showed on the edge when it was rolled up. All in all I am very proud of this piece and so happy that I got to work with them!

Beach List

In an attempt not to forget anything while packing for my upcoming beach excursion I designed this list. Just a fun piece I did for my own enjoyment that I thought would be a nice addition to what I have posted on here - always nice to show work where the only requirement was to have fun designing it!

Business Card

These are some business cards I just designed for my father. He sings jazz songs in the style of Frank Sinatra at restaurants/bars, weddings, and other events. Ava Productions (aptly named after Frank's second wife) is the name of his company. I wanted to give the card a nostalgic, yet modern look while capturing the feeling of sitting down and drifting away into the sweet sounds of an old jazz record - maybe one recorded by ole blue eye's himself.

Baby Shower invites

I very recently designed two baby shower invitations for my friend to choose from for her shower. She (as you might have figured) does not know the gender of the baby and isn't going to know until delivery. She is still deciding which to use at the moment - we'll see which one wins out! I did all of the illustration myself, scanned it in, and colored it in Adobe Illustrator.
