I am moving to Brooklyn [NY] in 3 weeks (very excited!) and one of the friends I am moving with is my best friend, Adam. I couldn't let him move to the city without a business card so I got to work designing after 'meeting' with him about the aesthetic he was interested in - and this is the result. He gave me an idea of the color palette he wanted and told me he wanted something very geometric and graphic that hinted at modernity and art deco. Here's to moving and the opportunities that will present themselves to us, may we have a business card ready!

Spring Cards
These are a few cards I created for friends this spring. The first one is a birthday card for my wonderful friend Grace, chicks are her favorite animal! The second is a card for my friend Iggie who was donning the cap of a thespian for the Medical School Skit Night held annually here in Birmingham - the chicks in Grace's card were so fun I felt compelled to use a chick motif again. And finally, at the bottom, is the card I made for my dear friend Rachel's bridal shower. All of these were so fun to create and each person enjoyed their respective card as well!

Personal Promotional Items - Marianne McConnell
My sister is an aspiring actress that is currently still in school but will be graduating in December. She asked me to redesign her resume (at the top) as well as design a business card (front and back are the bottom two files) and thank you card (outside and inside - it folds - are the middle two files) for her in order to prepare for graduation and applying for jobs. One of her favorite flowers is the daisy so I decided to incorporate it into the design. The design in general is very sweet, fun, and feminine - as a designer you rarely get to create such a fun design for this kind of project but since it's for pursuing a career in theatre/acting the more creative and less 'business' design was appropriate. I illustrated the daisies myself (and colored them in illustrator), I always love when I get a chance to incorporate my own illustrations into a project. Hopefully it will help her stand out from the other applicants!

John's Lawn Service - business system and logo
The guy I work with has a lawn service that he runs in his off time to make some extra money while enjoying time outdoors. He only asked me to design a car magnet that he could put on the side of his truck to advertise; however, I decided to do a bit of branding for him and design a logo as well as business system in addition to the magnet. The first image is the car magnet for advertising, the second image is the letterhead, the next three show the various views of the envelope design and the last two images are the front and back sides of the business card design. Hopefully his business will really take off this summer!

'Where To' Signs for UAB Print Shop building
I am currently employed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Print Shop and was asked to create signs that would aid in directing our customers around our building (which is a bit of a labrynth and includes many different departments.) I jumped on the chance to do it and enjoyed designing them - and am glad that we don't have as many lost people wandering about! I created the icons for each department in Illustrator and finished the rest in InDesign.

Happy March Madness!
So I unfortunately missed the ESPN bracket deadline by three minutes this morning so decided to create my own to follow the games and see how I do! I don't know much about what's been going on in Basketball but I have always wanted to fill out a bracket but never have - this year I made sure I did (even if ESPN said I was too late.) Also, I'd like to wish everyone a happy St. Patrick's Day - go have a Guinness for me!

Med School Trivia Night Poster
I was asked to design a poster/flyer for the Birmingham School of Medicine's Tropical Disease Trivia night, which required a bit of brainstorming. I wanted something catchy, young, and whimsical that was at the same time appropriate and sophisticated design wise. All this considered I wanted to make sure that it related to Tropical Disease as well - without using cheesy imagery such as a mosquito or tropical/medicinal elements. Gin and tonic (with lime, naturally) happens to be my favorite cocktail and I know that the origin of the drink was when brits in India were encouraged to drink tonic water (which contains quinine) to fight off Malaria. Drawing on this knowledge I created the 'marketing idea' behind the poster. Although this fact about quinine (which fights malaria) in tonic water might be too obscure for a general audience it fit right into the audience this poster was intended for - medical students. The event was such a success that the national chapter of UAEM has decided to mention it in their next newsletter!

Vacay!
I am going to LA to visit my mom and one of my best friends on Wednesday for a week and have been really looking forward to it! I decided to do a bit of research and create a 'guidebook' of places I'd like to visit. Although I've never visited Los Angeles before the feel I currently have of the city is what I tried to evoke in the color choices and design itself. The first page shown is the cover, then the informal table of contents, proceeded by an example of each type of page I included, finally followed by the back cover.

Birthday Time!
My good friend Mellanie just had her 24th birthday - always a good reason to celebrate! She is a super fun girl with high-end taste so I felt this card evoked her personality a bit. I don't usually have a reason to use colors as bold as these so that made this very fun to design!

Happy 2011!
I realize we are a good bit into the new year but I had designed this as a New Year's greeting and had wanted to post it on here. I hope everyone's 2011 has thus far been excellent and will continue to be!
